SECURES THREE POINTS FOR CHICHESTER
After a run of four games without success,
Chichester got
back on the winning trail by taking three points against
Hassocks on Saturday. With all their main league rivals
indisposed either by cup engagements or the weather, City
managed to close within five points of leaders Whitehawk.
Heavy rain and strong winds meant the fixture was in jeopardy
until the eleventh hour, and manager Adie Girdler seemed to have
picked the perfect weekend to take a golfing holiday in Spain.
Reserve team striker Michael Long continued to deputize for the
injured Ben Vassallo, and justified his selection by scoring the
only goal on 6 minutes in an otherwise highly forgettable
contest.
The conditions ruined the game from a spectator point of view,
and while City created a few more chances after their early
strike, Hassocks never managed to seriously test Cameron Scott
in the home goal apart from some wind-assisted free-kicks. The
Robins were well below par compared to their impressive win
against Shoreham a week earlier, and by the second-half any
serious action had deteriorated away allowing City to hang on
for the victory.
