MULLEN SEES RED AS CHICHESTER'S TITLE HOPES FADE

06/02/10: Hassocks 2 Chichester City

Chichester City’s County
League Title hopes faltered at Hassocks on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat that means
City have taken just one point from their last three games.
Greg Forster replaced Anthony Ender in goal for City in an
otherwise unchanged side from the one narrowly beaten in their midweek clash
with League Leaders, Whitehawk. Ender was instead on duty for Bognor in their
Ryman League encounter with Tonbridge. Things started promisingly enough
with Ben Vassallo giving City a second minute lead from a Joe Briggs cross as
his shot squirmed under Joel Harding in the home goal. There might have
been further goals as Vassallo pushed another shot past the post and Harding
stuck out a foot to deny Briggs, but these misses were ultimately to prove
costly.

HAWKS WIN ACTION-PACKED TITLE CLASH AT OAKLANDS

A HAT-TRICK from
Sam Crabb on Tuesday night sent Whitehawk on their way to an action-packed 3-2
victory over Chichester. The two teams - who have both applied for
promotion to the Ryman League - started the match level on points at the top of
Sussex County Division One, but with the Hawks having three games in hand and
securing this vital win at Oaklands Park it seems Chichester now face an uphill
task if they are to overtake their rivals. In a dramatic start to the
contest, Hawks took the lead with a spectacular fifth minute goal when Wes Tate
escaped down the right and clipped the ball into the six-yard box for Crabb to
volley home. But seven minutes later, City were level when Adrian Brockway
converted a penalty after Ben Vassallo had been fouled by keeper Lloyd Anderson
some distance out.

LATE MULLEN GOAL EARNS POINT FOR CHI AT PEACEHAVEN

30/01/10: Peacehaven & Telscombe 2 Chichester City

A last minute goal from Lee Mullen rescued a point for
Chichester City in
their top of the table clash at Peacehaven & Telscombe on Saturday.
Peacehaven had already beaten City in the FA Vase at
Piddinghoe Avenue earlier in
the season but City made an ideal start this time by taking a sixth minute lead.
After absorbing early pressure City broke from defence and Michael Long took the
ball down the right to cross to an unmarked Callum Cutler with time to work the
ball onto his preferred right foot and strike his shot past Jake Buss in the
home goal. City held their lead until the interval thanks to a goal
line clearance by Jamie Ford and a flying save by Anthony Ender to turn a fierce
shot from Tom Burton onto the crossbar and eventually away to safety.

CHI EXACT REVENGE OVER REDHILL AND REGAIN TOP SPOT

23/01/10: Chichester City

CHICHESTER CITY reclaimed top
spot in the Sussex County League with a narrow 1-0 victory over Redhill at
Oaklands Park on Saturday. Previous League leaders, Whitehawk, were in FA Vase
Fourth Round action at Bristol Manor Farm and now trail City by two points with
three games in hand but may find their ongoing Cup commitments and fixture
backlog a factor in the final months of the season. City Assistant Manager, Dave
Kelly was pleased with another three points “it’s good to have the points in the
bag. Whitehawk have some big games coming up and still have to come to Oaklands.
You never know what may happen. We just have to keep going.”

Once again Chichester City had a

pitches. The first team game at Eastbourne was called off on Saturday morning
and only one County league fixture survived. Chichester travel to Storrington
for a Brighton Charity cup 1st round tie on Tuesday evening (KO 7:15pm) before
hosting Redhill in the league next Saturday (KO 3pm).

CHI KNOCKED OUT OF CUP BY TEN MAN REDHILL

CHICHESTER kicked off the new
year with a defeat at the hands of Redhill in the quarter-finals of the John
O’Hara League Cup. Victory was secured by the hosts despite recently
losing their manager, having a player sent off during the first-half and
Chichester getting the ball into the net after only three minutes – although it
was ruled out for offside. Both sides had chances to score during the
opening 45 minutes. Chris Hubbard squandered a great opportunity for Redhill
when he side-footed the ball over the bar after Lee Radford’s cross had eluded
the Chichester defence.

CHICHESTER LOSE TOP SPOT AFTER BOXING DAY BLUES

26/12/09: Arundel 2 Chichester City

Chichester City surrendered
top spot in the Sussex County League after suffering from a Christmas hangover
at lowly Arundel on Boxing Day. Adie Girdler had several key players
missing for the final game of the year but he was able to field recent Wick
signing Barry McCoy, who featured strongly for Chi last season. In an
action packed first half, Temple almost put the Lilywhites ahead as early as the
2nd minute but Ben O’Connor, one of four ex-city players in the
Arundel line-up, just managed to clear the ball off the line. The Arundel keeper
was called into action again on 15 minutes, this time making a fine save from a
McCoy 30-yard drive.

CHICHESTER CITY REACH LEAGUE CUP QUARTER FINALS

Chichester
City progressed in the John O’Hara League Cup after beating
Eastbourne United Association 3-1 in the third round at Oaklands
Park on Saturday. Chichester took the lead on 20 minutes
when James Archer played through Joe Briggs who drilled the ball
low to the keeper’s left and despite the claims of offside the
goal was allowed to stand. Eastbourne got their revenge 6
minutes later when a long range shot from Bywater deflected off
James Ford and past the hapless Ender in the City goal.
Ciupinski came close to giving the visitors the lead soon after
but blasted over from close range and then Sargent in the
Eastbourne goal was forced into action, saving shots from first
Archer and then Cutler.

An injury time goal from James Ford ensured maximum points
for Chichester against
Hailsham Town on Saturday and sent the Lillywhites to the top of Sussex County
league for the first time since August.
Chichester are now one point clear of Whitehawk and although
the Hawks have two games in hand, they still have numerous cup games to complete
including their 3rd round FA Vase match at Larkhall which was
postponed at the weekend.
Chichester manager Adie
Girdler is hoping that Whitehawk’s backlog of fixtures is going to play into his
teams hands. “Look out Whitehawk, we’re coming to get you,” he commented after
the game. It looked for long periods as though
Chichester were going to
squander their opportunity to return to the top as lowly Hailsham Town, under
the leadership of their new manager Ken McCreadie, put up a very strong
resistance.
