CHICHESTER U18s WIN SURREY WOMENS
LEAGUE CUP FINAL
 |
|
May 4th:
Chichester U18 Girls 4 Merstham Girls 4 a.e.t
Chichester win 5-3 on penalties |
|
With just three minutes of
extra time remaining a Chichester victory looked highly unlikely as Merstham led
4-3 and City were down to ten players following a sending off. However, the
courageous Chichester team had other ideas as Laura Pike volleyed home an Abbie
Crook cross to set up a penalty shoot out. Five perfect penalties and one fine
save later, the Sussex Champions had won their third trophy in two seasons.
Chichester, playing the final on Merstham's own Ryman League
ground, knew they had to start well and silence the large and vociferous home
crowd and made the perfect start as Chantelle Clark fired City in front after
just five minutes following a surging run and then Abbey Shrubb doubled the
advantage on fifteen minutes, converting a pass from Paris Hutton. Chichester
played some wonderful football during the first thirty minutes and could have
easily added to the score as Shrubb and Clark went close and Imogen Horne
rattled the cross bar. Merstham came more into the game and Sam Wiseman made two
smart saves before Merstham reduced the deficit just before the break.

CHICHESTER COMPLETE SEASON WITH
RESOUNDING VICTORY
 |
|
April 26th:
Ringmer 2 Chichester City United 4 |
|
Chichester City
United ended a difficult season in the Sussex County League with a resounding
victory at Ringmer on Saturday. With City clear of any lingering relegation
fears and Ringmer comfortably in mid table there was a youthful look about both
sides with the City youngsters coming out well on top to gain revenge for defeat
to the same opponents on the opening day of the season.

Chichester City United Reserves completed their season with a 4-0 victory at
Lancing last Wednesday night. The result enabled them to leap frog their
opponents in the Reserve West table - their 5th place finish being the highest
achieved all season.

CHICHESTER CITY UNITED U12s WIN DERBY
CUP FINAL

April 20th:
Chichester City United U12s 4 Chi City Colts U12s 1 |

The final of the Saywell International (Arun
and Chichester) Youth Football League Under 12 Peter Merritt Shield between
Chichester City United Youth and Chichester City Colts was finally played this
weekend following the cancellation on the 6th of April due to snow! In total
contrast the final was played in brilliant warm sunshine at Arundel FC where
both teams enjoyed great support from the travelling fans, Chichester City
United Youth were the victors after a fine first half performance which saw them
go in half time 3-0 up with goals from Tom Knight, Matt Boulton and Oliver
Gilbert. The second half was a much more even affair and saw a full time score
of 4-1 with a second goal coming from Tom Knight. The under 12’s now turn their
attentions back to the league, where if they win all four of their remaining
games will see them do the league and cup double this year.

CHICHESTER FINALLY SAFE AFTER
NINE GOAL THRILLER
 |
|
April 19th:
Chichester City United 5 Three Bridges 4 |
|
Chichester launched themselves
clear of relegation danger, overcoming Three Bridges by the odd goal in nine in
a thrilling contest that marked the last-ever County League game at Church Road
on Saturday. Chamal Fenelon was in electric form against his old club,
claiming a hat-trick, and strike-partner Mike O’Neill bagged the other two in a
memorable send-off to the dilapidated Portfield ground. City looked the more
hungry side from the start, and a goalkeeping error on 28 minutes gave them the
lead. Mark Fox mis-kicked a backpass straight to the feet of Russell Hardwell,
who pushed the ball to Fenelon for an easy finish.

CURTAIN COMES DOWN ON CHURCH ROAD
GROUND
 |
|
APR 14th:
Portfield’s
Church Road ground is set to
stage its last-ever Sussex County League senior game on Saturday when Chichester
City United play their final home fixture of the season against Three Bridges.
City are planning a return to Oaklands Park when the 2008/09
campaign kicks off in August, but even if further obstacles prevent the club
from moving back to their old home this year, any future football at Church Road
seems unlikely.
The ground has been hit by vandals and thieves in recent times, and an FA
directive concerning the tightening-up of ground requirements means the
facilities at Church Road
would no longer be acceptable for senior soccer.
Football has been played at the site for the last fifty
years. It was in 1958 that Portfield FC moved from the recreation ground in
Florence Road
to what was then their new home.
