03/03/2001 - Three Bridges 0 City United 1 (League)

A frist half goal from Roger Moore secured Chichester City United their eighth away win of the season at the expense of Three Bridges.

Chi's away form is currently the best in the County League and this result could have been even more emphatic with a score of chances being created.

Jamie Laidlaw might have had a hat-trick in the first few minutes but found Bridge's keeper, Alan Mansfield riding his luck with a combination of full length saves and reaction stops.

Adam Stallard also scorned a chance to put Chi ahead after Bill Butlin opened up the home defence before the visitors went ahead in the 35th minute.

A foul on Butlin saw Paul Thomas drive a free-kcik to the near post for Moore to nudge in his 11th goal of the season despite a five month absence from first team action.

Moore might have added to his tally almost immediately but Matt Baker's goalline handling offence escaped the notice of the match officials and the home side appeared to have a fortunate let off.

After the break the woodwork twice came to Bridges' rescue as first substitute Chris Male hit a post and then Moore headed against the crossbar.

Butlin's best chance was then undone by an erratic bounce on the heavy surface as the midfielder shaped to extend City' slead.

At the other end Jamie Johnson responded to criticism from his manager last week by keeping his second clean sheet in five days with the help of the new defensive pairing of Chris Rustell and Kevin Murphy, on loan from Bognor Regis.

Johnson did well to save from Steve Banks at the base of the post but also enjoyed a couple of narrow escapes as Banks and Edwards wasted good chance near the end that would have given Bridges' a point they scarcely deserved.
