07/05/2001 - Horsham YMCA 3 City United 2 (League)

Chichester City United's Bank Holiday weekend was a reflection of their whole season on a 'win some, lose some' basis.

Chi came from behind to beat Hassocks 3-1 on Saturday but lost a first half lead at Horsham YMCA on Monday to end their season with a 3-2 defeat.

Against Hassocks the visitors took the lead when the smallest player on the park, Luke Flumo, won a header at the far post from a corner to steer the ball back across the face of goal and Eddie French supplied the final touch.

Chi equalised in the 21st minute when Jamie Laidlaw latched onto Sid Sanderson's diagonal pass to go on and score his 32nd goal of the season. Stuart Chandler then produced one of his special left footers to put Chi ahead 10 minutes later.

A disallowed goal from a free-kick by Chris Hewitt seemed to harshly deny Hassocks an equaliser early in the second half but Chi rode their luck and Roger Moore made it 3-1 after a clever exchange between Laidlaw and Chandler opened up the visitors defence.

Roger Moore was on target again on Mondat at Horsham YMCA to give City the lead but YM equalised before the break and Chi then had Tim Brown sent off.

YM had stretched their lead to 3-1 before Moore reduced the arrears toward sthe end of the gane to bring his personal tally for the season to a respectable 19.

Chi were without leading goal scorer Jamie Laidlaw, midfielder Paul Thomas and keeper Jamie Johnson which meant the first appearance of the season for Aidie Girdler.
