23/09/2003 - Redhill 0 Chichester City United 3 (Division One)

Chichester City United maintained their lead at the top of the County League with a 3-0 victory against struggling Redhill on Tuesday evening.

Two goals in the last ten minutes eventually gave Chi a comfortable margin of victory but they also had to soak up long spells of pressure from the home side before coming away with the points.

Chi opening goal on half an hour followed a bad defensive error by former Three Bridges captain, Steve Roberts, who allowed a seemingly straightforward interception roll under his foot and let Roger Moore break clear to drive his shot past the advancing 'keeper.

Lee Preston in the Chi goal, playing against one of his former clubs, then did well to turn a fierce shot from Steve Gillett behind for a corner as Redhill swarmed forward to test the visitors defence.

Chi continued to be tested in the second half but looked dangerous on the counter-attack before eventually making the game safe with ten minutes left. Once again it was an error by Roberts that set up the chance as he repeated his earlier error and this time Neil Murfin raced away to take the ball round the keeper to score his 9th goal of the season.

Two minutes later Moore made it 3-0 as he sprang the Redhill offside trap and once again ran clear of the defence to bring his personal tally for the season to 11.
