27/12/2003 - Sidlesham 1 Chichester City United 8 (Division One)

Sidlesham were swamped 8-1 by Chichester City United in appalling conditions at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Heavy rain throughout the match made conditions virtually unplayable at the end of 90 minutes and the Sidlesham spirits were as damp as the conditions as City ran riot in the last quarter.

Neil Murfin scored twice in the first half to put the visitors in charge but it was the third goal on the hour that really opened the flood gates as Paul Thomas headed in a Russ Hardwell corner.

An own goal from Towers gifted City a fourth before Richard Davies pulled a goal back for the home side.

Thomas made it 5-1 from the penalty spot after Tony Stephens was fouled and then Scott Murfin twice broke clear to shoot past Byron Kearns in the home goal only for the ball to stop short in the mud on each occasion. However, brother Neil was first to arrive on the scene each time to add his third and fourth goals of the afternoon.

Paul Jones headed in number 8 and there could have been more as Hardwell hit the side netting and the Murfin brothers tormented a demoralised defence.
