Chichester Reach Brighton Charity Cup Final

The referee looks on as Chichester take a corner

Chichester made it through to their second cup final of the season with a comprehensive victory against Whitehawk in the Brighton Charity Cup on Tuesday.

It took just twelve minutes for City to take the lead, when a high right-wing lob from Roger Moore caught the wind and sailed into the net, as both Scott Tipper and keeper Tom Rand misjudged the delivery. The evergreen Moore came into the match having scored four times for Clanfield three days earlier.

Five minutes before half-time, Tipper broke clear and unleashed a fierce shot that Rand did well to parry, but Mark Jackson was perfectly placed to tap-in the rebound.

The contest was put beyond all doubt at the start of the second period, thanks to a shockingly bad mistake by the Hawks’ keeper. City were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position just outside the penalty area, but Rand appeared to have Tipper’s strike covered. However, the ex-Lewes reserve fumbled the ball into the goal, and was left hiding his face in shame.

Chichester now have an attractive clash with Ryman League promotion-chasers Horsham in the final.
