CHICHESTER DRAW A BLANK ON BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY
Ringmer and
Chichester served up a typical end-of-season cocktail from two
mid-table sides that have little left to play for in the League.
Even the presence of a scout from Brentford failed to lift the
players. Neither goalkeeper was called upon to make a save of
note with the play confined to the middle third of the pitch for
long periods.
Ringmer had Dan Waller making his first appearance since
breaking his leg eight minutes into his Ringmer debut way back
in September. He and Wayne Laycock were dominant in the air at
the back for the Blues while Paul Jones was in similar dominant
mode at the back for Chi.
The first chance of the match fell to Eddie Koboah, cutting
in from the left to unleash a right foot shot which went just
wide of the Chi goal. Then a flick on from Miles Scerri enable
Aaron MacMillan to shoot on the turn but his effort was
deflected off a Chi defender for a corner.
Chichester then had three chances in quick succession in the last
fifteen minutes of the first half.
A Paul Jones header from a free-kick by Adrian Brockway went
straight into the arms of
Adams and then
Paul Thomsett headed off the goal line to prevent Jones from
giving the visitors the lead after Adams and Laycock had
collided going for a cross. Another cross from Brockway saw a
header from Clements go safely into the hands of Adams.
An early opening in the second half saw Lee Mullen shoot
straight at
Adams before
MacMillan had two chances to give the home side the lead. The
first when his shot from a cross by Clive Snell went inches wide
and then he ran onto a through ball from Danny McLaughlin and
lobbed the advancing Anthony Elder only to see his effort pass
over the cross bar. Moments later MacMillan crossed from the
right wing for Scerri to miscue a shot near the far post which
then rebounded to safety off fellow Blue, Matt Beeston.
Chi’s Jason
Clements wasted two chances; the first when he latched onto a
poor clearance to fire over the bar from just inside the penalty
area and then when he headed a cross from Scott Murfin just
wide. For Ringmer Jack Johnson had a late chance to snatch three
points when a weak clearance feel invitingly at his feet but his
shot from the edge of the penalty area disappeared into the
trees rather than the back of the net.
