CHICHESTER
COMPREHENSIVELY BEATEN BY SELSEY
CHICHESTER are
still searching for their first goal of the season after they
were comprehensively undone 4-0 at Selsey in their second
fixture on Tuesday.
Midfielder Adrian Brockway continued to deputise in goal and
had a real job on his hands during the first-half, having to
cope with a dazzling sun in his eyes in addition to an
unpredictable strong wind.
Selsey always looked the stronger team and rattled up three
goals before the interval. Tom Ridley escaped down the
left-wing on a solo run to strike the opening blow with 8
minutes on the clock, and the same player hit the woodwork with
a free-kick allowing ex-City forward Jake Lafferty to slot home
the rebound on 25 minutes.
Ridley got his second from the spot after Ross Woolf had
been bundled to the ground, although in another similar incident
at the other end, referee Wallace denied appeals for a penalty
during one of the few City raids.
Any chance of a second-half revival was quickly snuffed out
on 54 minutes when Selsey extended their lead courtesy of Joe
Miles, who blasted the ball into the net following a corner.
The remainder of the contest was of no consequence. For
Selsey, it broke a ten-year hoodoo of not beating City at the
High Street Ground. Danny Hinshelwood’s side now have maximum
points after the opening week of the campaign.
