U15 GIRLS PLAY WELL BUT LOSE FINAL LEAGUE GAME

Chichester played one of their best games of the season and were unlucky not to finish the final League game with a draw. It was an evenly-matched game and Chichester started strongly. Oakwood conceded several corners after some good attacking play from the home side.  Harnett had  a shot at goal and the closest chance came off the fourth corner when the ball hit the bar. Campbell was on outstanding form showing pace, drive and intelligence and appeared to relish the chance to play up front. Oakwood were equally determined and Adams cool head in goal was needed. The second half followed the same pattern with some good runs from Chapman and Lambourne, Howes, Carter and Hilton responding to pressure in midfield. The defence looked strong throughout and the Oakwood goal in the last ten minutes which went in off a home player following a corner was a cruel end to a well-fought match.

STRONG WORTHING SNATCH ALL THREE POINTS

An impressive all-round performance saw a strong Worthing team snatch all 3 points.  Indeed, had it not been for the exceptional efforts of Claire Lambourne and Olivia Howard at the heart of the Chichester defence and an absolutely outstanding performance by City stopper Georgie Adams, the scoreline could eventually have been even more emphatic.

Worthing took an early lead and, although Lauren Ellis benefited from a lovely 6 pass move to slot in an equaliser, never looked unduly troubled.  They were ahead again before half-time and camped in the home-team’s half throughout the second period.  Chichester will hope to improve in their final fixture.

CHICHESTER LOOK CONFIDENT DESPITE DEFEAT

Chichester played an excellent first half and were full of energy and determination. It was end-to-end and both sides looked capable of scoring. Rustington had two pacy wingers and the defence were in particularly good form with Howard showing impressive pace and Leeming blocking well. The opposition had a number of half-chances and Adams was consistently reliable in goal. Rustington took their first corner well and Sabin showed lightning reflexes to deflect the ball. Chichester scored just before half-time with Ellis looping the ball in from the left.

The second half started with an excellent save from Adams and some good pressure from the Chichester attack. Rustington responded confidently and got a deserved equaliser off a rebound. Rustington forced several corners as the away team piled on the pressure. A scramble in the box led to Chichester conceding a penalty which Rustington took full advantage of. Chichester’s heads were down and they struggled to get back into the game. However, Hilton, Chapman and Lambourne were as tenacious as ever and Harnett displayed some neat footwork. De Steroix and Adams both did well coming back on with injuries and Callen tackled well. Rustington scored a further two late goals and were understandably delighted with the result.

Chichester should however take comfort from some extended periods of high-quality play and must approach the remaining games of the season with confidence.

DEPLETED CHICHESTER STRUGGLE AGAINST ADUR ATHLETIC

Chichester, without several of their regular players and with no recognised goalkeeper in the squad, struggled throughout the first period.  They took an unlikely lead, Lauren Ellis capitalising on a simple mistake by the Adur keeper, but looked lacklustre thereafter.  The home side equalised with a well-worked move on 25 minutes; the City defence then appeared to go to sleep, allowing Athletic to get their noses in front before the interval.  Indeed, only Isola Hilton’s heroics as stand-in stopper prevented Adur going further ahead before the break.

Chichester were much brighter in the second half, with the tireless Olivia Howard dominating the centre of the park and with Georgia Stubbs and Alice Leeming rendering Adur’s few forward forays ineffective. Ellis struck the woodwork, but the visitors were unable to penetrate a well-organised Athletic defence and were caught on the break just before the end.

U15 GIRLS LOSE SEMI-FINAL AFTER LACKLUSTRE PERFORMANCE

Chichester city had played brilliantly to get through to the Cup semi-final but were out-paced and out-classed by the League-topping Seaford Harriers. On a very cold afternoon with a punishing northerly wind, the visitors were unable to get the ball out of their half for much of the match. The first half showed Hilton and Lambourne in typically tenacious form and, despite conceding numerous corners, it was not until just before the half-time whistle that Seaford managed to scramble their first goal in.

The second half looked more promising with a great save from Adams early on. Carter and Howes harried the midfield and Adfield and Campbell showed good pace but a second goal for the home side was deserved and from then on, Seaford looked invincible. It was only a matter of time until they scored again and a third duly came ten minutes before the end. Chichester were left with a long drive home and an opportunity to focus on the remainder of the League fixtures.

U15 GIRLS WIN DESPITE TWO MONTHS WITHOUT A GAME

This was Chichester’s first game for nearly 2 months after a lengthy weather-inflicted lay-off.

Jess Harnett opened the scoring for the visitors, leaving the home keeper stranded with a lofted shot from the edge of the box while it was her perfectly placed through ball that let in Jodie Chapman for their second.  Not to be outdone, strike partner Lauren Ellis latched onto a defence-splitting pass just before the interval and Chi were three ahead.

Any hopes of an Adur revival evaporated just after the re-start when Ellis’ deft flick found the top corner.  Chichester were dominant at this stage and only a string of super saves spared the Shoreham team’s blushes.  Chi had a goal disallowed for offside before Coral Campbell slotted the ball home for a fifth.

To their very great credit, Athletic heads did not drop and they took advantage of some slightly suspect defensive work to find the net themselves.  Chichester’s Amy Carter restored their 5 goal advantage with minutes to go before Adur sneaked a further consolation at the death.

CITY THROUGH TO SEMI-FINALS AFTER GOAL FEST

A pre-Christmas goal-fest saw Chichester through to the semi-finals of the cup. However a terrible start saw the home side concede 3 goals in the first half without scoring themselves.

Felpham created opportunities and looked the better side. Sabin, Carter and Howes were tenacious and gave Chichester some half-chances and Campbell’s pace ensured that things didn’t go all the visitors’ way. Adams made a fabulous save at full stretch just before the half-time whistle.

The second half saw a transformed Chichester scoring three times in the first eight minutes. Chapman’s second goal from 20 yards curled in high from the right and lifted the team’s spirits.

From then on, there was some excellent passing and the team displayed some useful moves and played with greater thought and creativity.

Felpham scored twice more but Ellis’s two goals before the final whistle were confident and well-placed. In extra time, Chichester looked determined to win with Howard and Hilton fighting every ball.

Harnett’s deft footwork moved the ball up the field and Callen and Leeming blocked everything that came their way. Ellis scored early and then Campbell found the back of the net after a frantic goalmouth scramble.

Victory was assured after Ellis was set up brilliantly by Sabin and punched home an eighth and final goal.

BELOW PAR CHI GIRLS STRUGGLE AGAINST WORTHING

A below par City side struggled against a well-organised and pacey Worthing outfit.

Keeper Georgie Adams was forced into action early on, brilliantly parrying a shot from distance, but the visitors’ pressure paid dividends a few minutes later when an excellent through ball left the home defence stranded.

Chichester rallied after the first goal and things evened up a little.  However, they struggled to create meaningful chances and might have conceded again just before half-time, a close-range Minors effort just clearing the crossbar. Coral Campbell and Olivia Howard were outstanding in the City defence.

Chichester started the second half brightly, with Emily Sabin and Claire Lambourne working hard in midfield – however, Worthing soon doubled their lead, somewhat against the run of play.

The home side switched to a more attacking 3-5-2 formation for the last 10 minutes and were at last able to put Minors under some real pressure.  Lauren Ellis forced a save from the Worthing keeper with 5 minutes left, but Chi had left themselves vulnerable to counter-attack.  In the end, a brilliantly taken individual effort beat Adams and guaranteed the points to the visitors.

SCORELINE DOESN'T REFLECT EVEN MATCH

The score line does a dis-service to Chichester in a game than was the fairly evenly-matched throughout. It was clear from the outset that it was going to be pacy game with no quarter given by the home side.

There were opportunities for both sides early on and some good saves from both goalies. Oakwood scored first with both midfield and defence out-played. Chichester’s goal came shortly after from a perfectly-taken free kick from Harnett. Howes’ speed and determination and some great defending from Howard looked set to deliver a quality game.

However Oakwood were allowed to dictate play briefly and scored two in quick succession. There were some well-crafted play and both sides passed well.  Chichester were unlucky to concede a further goal before half-time. The second half started well for Chichester and the midfield responded well to the challenge.

Lambourne demonstrated her usual tenacity and Campbell’s pace was impressive but Oakwood’s tiny striker once again got through to score a fifth. Callen was tireless in defence and Ellis had some good runs. The latter was unlucky not to score when a penalty was awarded.

There were a number of late opportunities and a period of sustained pressure but fortune did not favour the away side who had to travel home having played well but with less to show for it that they strictly deserved.

CHICHESTER BEAT PEVENSEY IN SUSSEX CUP

A lengthy journey for the U15s was rewarded by a deserved cup win against a side that top their own League.

There was no more experimentation with the catenaccio formation and a return to the traditional 4, 4, 2 suited the players.

Early play was end-to-end and the sides were evenly matched. Sabin harried and worried the opposition defence and then Chapman, with pace and skill, scored a beautifully-crafted goal which changed the dynamics for the rest of the first half.

Both sides had their chances though but neither was able to capitalise. Hilton and Campbell were full of energy and, once Lambourne was brought on, she made her presence felt. Leeming played skilfully against a talented right winger.

The second half started well with a beautiful goal from Ellis which looped in over the goalie’s head. Chi lost some pace though and there were moments of anxiety.

Harnett’s footwork remained consistent and an outstanding save from Adams in the final minutes ensured a clean sheet for the team.

FANTASTIC FLYERS PUT FIVE PAST FELPHAM

Chi Fliers enjoyed an away-day goal feast at Felpham on Sunday afternoon but it was by no means as simple as the score line suggests.  The opening period saw 2 apparently evenly-matched teams cancel each other out and the 0-0 half-time score line gave no hint of the drama to come.

Chichester had tried a new system, with Olivia Howard playing a libero role in a 4-1-4-1 formation; although they effectively neutraliseD the home side’s attacking threat, Lauren Ellis as a solo striker struggled to find a scoring opportunity. In the second half they reverted to a conventional 4-4-2, with debutante Jodie Chapman alongside Ellis up front.

The change soon paid off. Felpham struggled to deal with Georgie Adams’ penetrating goal kicks and the visitors’ direct approach led to a goal for Ellis just after the break. Chichester’s second was an impressive solo effort by the lively Chapman.  Chichester’s dominance increased steadily, with Felpham having no answer to Ellis’ power and pace – her second followed some super skill cutting in from the left, while she completed her hat-trick by latching on to another superb goal kick.  Jess Harnett completed the scoring for the visitors with a fine shot from distance.

Chichester have a number of new players – Georgie Adams was immensely impressive in goal, while Jodie Chapman’s lively running caused Felpham endless problems.  Georgia Stubbs’ impressive performance in defence earned her the ‘girl-of-the-game’ award.

RUSTINGTON PUT CHICHESTER U15 GIRLS ON BACK FOOT

Two early Rustington goals put Chichester on the back foot almost as soon as the game started as the Flyers, who were playing with only 10 players and with a new central defensive partnership, struggled to get their usual passing game going.  However, after this early set back, they found a better shape and started to put a strong Rustington team under some pressure. Ellis got one back for the Flyers before Rustington struck twice again before half time.

The Flyers came out strongly in the second half, scoring, through Ellis, in the 43rd minute to peg the score back to 4-2. However, with tiring legs, they conceded four more in the second half before Harnett scored a magnificent long range free kick.

Despite having to pick the ball out of the net several times, new goalkeeper, Georgina Adams, made a series of spectacular saves and finished the game with a great deal of credit

BITTER TEARS OF DEFEAT FOR CHICHESTER

The U15 Girls tasted the bitter tears of defeat at the hands of an impressive and energetic Worthing Minors side. Chi City made a strong start and dominated play in the opening minutes of the game.

The team passed skilfully and Ellis’s opening goal was well-crafted. It was end-to-end play but, as the minutes went by, Worthing’s conviction and pace began to tell. Their equaliser from the corner was fully justified. They continued to pile on the pressure but Hilton resisted strongly and Adams, new in goal, made save after save.

Worthing scored their second moments before half-time. The second half showed greater determination from Chichester and Adams and Howard made some telling tackles. Ellis got close to scoring more than once but the deciding goal from a free kick was testament to Worthing’s superiority on the day.

U15 GIRLS OFF TO A WINNING START

Chi girls enjoyed a comfortable opening day victory over Adur, in spite of playing the whole game with only 10 players.  End-of-holiday commitments meant an under-strength Chichester team, but they cruised to a comfortable win.

The home side had plenty of possession throughout the first-half, but no clear-cut chances until the half-hour, when Lauren Ellis (playing as a lone striker) found the back of the net.  She scored again 5 minutes later and completed her hat-trick just after the break.

Adur grabbed a goal back with quarter of an hour to go but an inspired solo effort by Amy Howes restored Chi’s 3-goal cushion. With debutante goalkeeper Georgina Adams looking confident between the sticks and solid displays from their increasingly confident midfield, the U-15s can look forward to their most successful season to date.
