CHICHESTER LADIES
END SEASON WITH EASY VICTORY
Chichester ended a good season
with a comfortable win over lowly Haywards Heath. Chichester passed the ball
well from the start, with threatening moves from the off. Chi broke the deadlock
within ten minutes. The ball arriving to the feet of Sarah Wolfenden, who played
an inch perfect lofted pass to the feet of Laura Streeter who smashed the ball
into the back of the net without hesitation.
The opponents
gained confidence and started to compete for the ball, playing it in the air
where Chichester are a little vulnerable. Chi stopped the pressure by responding
with a goal from Laura Brander. A smart team goal, with Chichester moving the
ball with two touch football to be rounded of with a cool strike from Brander.
Chichester
again took their foot off the pedal and allowed Haywards Heath to play the long
ball game in the air. They cleared their lines comfortably, but an error allowed
a Heath player to break the offside trap to slot home a goal. Heath looked
likely to make a comeback, but Chi saw out the half, all be it in a slightly
uncomfortable fashion.
The second
half was an entirely different story. Chichester dominated and ran riot in
Hayward Heath defence, wave after wave of midfield and strikers attacking the
goal in numbers.
Several clear
cut chances were saved by the opponents keeper, but Chi kept applying the
pressure. This was again rewarded with a brilliant team goal. Wolfenden started
the move in the heart of midfield with a probing ball to the feet of Natalie
Hathaway who played the ball wide to Emma Teague. Teague drove at the defence to
cross the ball to the top of the box to Hathaway, turning the defender to set
the strike for Brander, who struck a left- footed shot that sailed into the top
left hand corner of the goal.
The team were
fully involved in the final goal. Wolfenden played the same ball through the
heart of the midfield, this time to the feet of Marie Field, playing it wide to
Emma Brand who switched the ball to Brander. Quick feet from Brander beat the
defender and created space to strike. The ball glanced the bar and dropped at
the feet of Field who was perfectly placed for a simple tap in.
More chances
fell for Chichester, a cleverly worked move, resulting in a reverse pass from
Hathaway to Field who struck just wide. Sarah Pennington salvaged the scraps of
a goal mouth scramble, firing from outside the area; saw her denied by the
keeper and the post. Emma Brand latched onto a well weighted pass, after a run
from Wolfenden. Only to see the keeper push the ball round the post for a
corner.
The defence
cleared Haywards Heaths long ball attacks, remaining composed throughout to pass
the ball out of defence, starting the attack from the Chichester back line.
Charlotte Broughton, in the Chichester goal, was quick to respond to the ball
over the top and was swiftly out of her goal to intercept the oncoming ball from
the attackers.
Chichester
rounded off their season with a solid team performance. The team came third in
the South East Counties Premier league, losing out on second place by just one
point. Chichester should be proud of their goal difference conceding the least
goals throughout the league. Any one interested in joining for hopefully another
successful season should contact Natalie Hathaway.

CHICHESTER TOO
COMPLACENT AGAINST UPPER BEEDING
Chichester made hard work of
this seemingly easy encounter. Facing the lowly Upper Beeding with only eight
players Chichester approached the match with a little too much respect for the
other players. The complacency continued as Chichester struggled to increase the
tempo of the game.
Ten minutes in
and the attacking football began with Chichester threatening the opponents goal
from all angles. Chi struggled to convert, having too much time and options
creating doubt and hesitation in the players minds. Once Chichester decided to
shoot they finally capitalised on the advantage. Annie Richardson struck from
long range, squeezing the ball under the keeper to open the tally.
Chichester
continued to break through the defence, moving the ball forward quickly through
the team, switching play at will across the back line, unfortunately Chi lacked
the killer instinct in the final attacking third. Chichester could and should
have had a bag full by half time, but they continued to struggle to find the
back of the net. A dangerous cross near the end of the half was met by the head
of Emma Brand to score the second, shortly after, a goal mouth scramble saw the
ball fall kindly for Sarah Pennington to drive home the third before the half
was out.
The second
half saw Chi dominate possession, with little threat from the opponents. Upper
Beeding once again placed their bank of six players in front of the keeper to
concede as few goals as possible. The frustrated Chichester showed some
excellent build up play but continued to lack quality from the final ball. Shots
fired over and wide as they persevered to increase the lead.
A missed
penalty added to the frustration throughout the team. Richardson saw a repeat of
her first half strike as the ball once more crept under the keeper. Laura
Brander completed the score line with a cracking strike into the back of the
net.
Chichester
took the three points and climbed the table to second place. Chichester complete
the season with an away fixture at Haywards Heath on Sunday.

CHICHESTER LADIES STILL IN WITH
CHANCE OF SECOND PLACE
Chichester dug deep to gain all
three points from this windy encounter with the bottom team of the league. The
three points kept Chichester in the running for the second position in the
league.
The home side found it
difficult to settle with a lack of control and composure on the ball. As the
half went on Chichester dominated, but still played the final ball way to heavy
as the wind whisked it off the pitch. Chi squandered several chances before
Richardson struck sweetly to be met by the bar, preventing any score. Brand had
a speculative effort from the half way line. The wind carried it well but swung
just wide of the target.
The second half was always
going to be difficult heading into the strong wind. Chi started well, playing
some fast flowing football, keeping the ball on the ground. Some quick inter
play from Hathaway, Richardson, Wolfenden and Taylor released the wide players,
Field and Streeter to threaten the opponents goal. Streeter struck just wide and
Field worked tirelessly down the left with no success.
With the wind against
Chichester they looked more settled and played the ball through to their
attackers with more accuracy. The team defended well and kept Haywards Heath at
bay. The breakthrough finally came with Richardson playing a smart through ball
over a defender for Field to latch on to.

CHICHESTER LADIES THRASH LEAGUE
LEADERS HORLEY
Chichester were hosts to the
top of the league and suitably embarrassed them by putting on a superb display
to beat the opposition comfortably. Early pressure resulted in a free kick just
outside the penalty area. Emma Brand stepped up to fire home the opener for
Chichester. Chichester stepped up the pressure to double the lead, with a
fantastic strike from Natalie Hathaway. A movement, starting deep in defence,
the ball transported through each section of the team to be calmly lofted over
the oncoming keeper by Hathaway.
Chichester absorbed some Horley
pressure, clearing several threatening corners before they regained control once
again. This time a consistent effort, pressurizing as a team saw Chichester
awarded a penalty. Brand stepped up once more to put the ball in the back of the
net. The home side looked comfortable at half time.
Chichester kept the momentum
and looked forward to the second half. Horley packed the midfield to apply a
more attacking threat to gain something from the game. The Chichester team stood
strong with all areas of the team working hard to support each other in both
attack and defence. Horley crept through on a couple of occasions; Broughton
prevented the start of a comeback as she tipped the ball round the post for a
corner.
The game became scrappy as
Horley threw everything forward and the frustrations set in. Chichester
maintained their concentration with quick free flowing football. They were
suitably rewarded and subsequently put the game out of reach when a switch of
play saw a clever flick with the outside of the foot from Richardson to put
Laura Streeter in to strike home the fourth.
Chichester could have easily
come away with an even more comfortable victory with several more chances
created. A fine performance from Chichester as they rue what could have been if
they had found this consistent form throughout the season.

CHICHESTER WEIGH IN WITH TEN
GOALS AGAINST ANCHORIANS
The postponed game was finally
played to Chichester’s delight. They dominated this stroll in the park and often
resorted to six upfront. The result could have been double the score; however
the Anchorians keeper did well in damage limitation.
Brander played
a fine ball in from the corner to be met by the head of Annie Richardson to open
the scoring. Shortly after Richardson struck the ball cleanly, to be parried by
the keeper into the path of Brander to slot home the second. The third came
minutes later from another Brander corner to be hassled into the back of the net
from Kirsty Troughton. The onslaught continued with attack after attack as they
flowed forward. Streeter, Brander, Richardson sent many through balls to be held
up by the off side trap.
Brander and
Richardson combined once more with the cross met perfectly with Richardson’s
head to be drilled into the back of the net. Troughton doubled her tally and
brought Chichester to five. Troughton kept her head in a goal mouth scramble and
on the second attempt placed the ball in the bottom left corner.
Brander once
more contributed, with a through ball to see Laura Streeter latch onto the end
of it to slot home to end the half with a seven goal lead.
The second
half saw Chichester make two changes Maria Tomlinson and Sarah Arbury got a run
out and made a quick impact with Maria cutting out a threatening through ball
from the opponents. Sarah attacked the left wing and played a dangerous cross
straight across the goal unfortunately the attackers were a step behind the
pace.
Richardson
moved back into the central defence position as Emma Brand had to come off the
pitch, due to an injury from a previous week. Richardson played a through ball
from defence to attack, with Streeter running on to strike once more for
Chichester. Natalie Hathaway leapt the highest to set up the next goal, playing
the ball into the path of Brander to get her second.
Chichester
dominated proceedings with the defence clearing any danger and the attack
creating opportunity after opportunity. Sarah Wolfenden was the lone midfield
player for much of the game, striving to be the link player. She finally
established herself in the game as it neared to its conclusion, playing a
through ball for Streeter to complete her hat trick.
Several
opportunities went begging throughout the whole game, Anchorians kept the score
line down by playing a frustrating but effective offside trap. Positions were
manipulated with Marley Lodge attacking the right side delivering some quality
crosses. Charlotte Broughton switched with Brander to get a run out on the
pitch. She capped the victory, latching on a loose ball bouncing over her
shoulder to be struck on the half volley and turning to strike sweetly into the
top corner.
A good victory
as Chichester adapted to the conditions and the climate of the game. Chichester

LORDSWOOD KNOCK CHICHESTER OUT
OF LEAGUE CUP
Chichester were dumped out of the quarter finals of the league cup this weekend
to the lower placed Lordswood. The opposition started much stronger on a boggy
and scrappy pitch. There was going to be an immense battle and it was never
going to be pretty. Chichester cleared their lines several times before they
found any joy on the field. The best chance fell to Sarah Wolfenden, a smart
move down the wing from Brander and Field, resulted in a square ball to be fired
into the top corner of the goal. Somehow the keeper scraped it away from the
danger area.
Chichester were now in the
battle, but a shock goal saw Chi fall behind, another before half time saw
Lordswood two ahead. Chi had made some chances but to no avail.
The second half saw
Chichester dominate and attempt to create something out of nothing. Brander
became frustrated and was pulled off side time and time again, on most occasions
the decision was questionable. Chichester drove forward, but everything fell to
the opposition, a slight bounce, a fifty fifty decision. Chi found the Lordswood
defence difficult to break down as they continued to blast the ball forward or
off the side line at every opportunity.
Chichester created a glimmer
of hope with a rocket of a shot from the foot of Annie Richardson. With time to
draw level, Chichester came as close as possible without actually scoring.
Several free kicks were awarded in dangerous areas, Chi failed to convert.
Harris saw her effort, scuffed out of the box in the last moments.
The final whistle came and
Chi were dejected. They now focus fully on the league with the target of third
position within their sights. Chichester travel to Kent once more to face

CHICHESTER HOLD UNDEFEATED UKP TO A DRAW
Chichester
travelled to Kent to face the undefeated top of the league, UKP. A draw was
possibly a fair result with both sides threatening to score in this open, free
flowing game. The officials made a significant difference; the quality allowed
the teams to play football with no disputes or petty decisions, the praise for
the referee was high.
Chichester
started at a high tempo, attacking from the off, UKP had exactly the same game
plan, with end to end play. The teams were erratic with some top quality
football and some hit and hope strikes. Chichester were first to threaten with
some quality attacking play, Sinead Gallagher was clean through on goal with the
keeper to beat, it was pulled just wide of the post.
After some
long range efforts threatening the Chichester goal, Chi swept forward once more
with a delightful passing move, resulting in a square ball across the top of the
box to be met sweetly by the left foot of Natalie Hathaway, much of the team had
reeled away to celebrate, only to see the ball clip the bar and bounce back out.
UKP became
more dominant and continued to move forward with Chi struggling to keep the
formation. Kirsty Troughton and Louise Harris had an exceptional game in the
centre of defence and cleared the trouble in front of them, they were hard to
breakdown.
Another
clear-cut chance was carved out by Chi, a smart one two was played with Sarah
Wolfenden and Hathaway combining to slot Wolfenden through with the keeper to
beat, everything was executed well, but the shot lacked power, the keeper saving
with her legs. Chichester were frustrated at being unable to convert the
rebound.
To emphasise
the agony, UKP responded by marching up the pitch to drive a long range screamer
into the Chichester goal. The away sides’ worries were doubled moments later
when a challenge on the keeper saw Charlotte Broughton injured on the floor.
After several moments of apprehension she was given the all clear. Thankfully
Broughton stayed on her feet as she dived full stretch minutes later to tip the
ball round the post from another powerful drive from the force of the
opposition’s attackers.
Chichester
started the second half with one thing in mind, getting the goal that they truly
deserved. It promised to come early with Hathaway, Streeter and Brander flowing
forward and creating opportunities, Streeter came closest with a close range
strike. Chichester remained dominant for much of the half and started to settle
playing some quality football. UKP remained a threat with their distinct height
advantage, but failed to capitalise with a header clearing the bar by inches.
Annie
Richardson came off the bench and Chichester reshuffled to try and force the
result. Hathaway, Richardson and Wolfenden combined early to take control of the
middle of the park, allowing Streeter and Field to attack the flanks. Brander
broke free on another well timed through ball and with a strike on the floor the
defence threw their body across to clear from the line.
Just when
Chichester thought that it was not their day they got their reward in an unusual
manner, Richardson played the ball through the middle, UKP got control and
played a very gentle pass back to the keeper, the keeper was so busy instructing
her defence that she took her eye of the ball for a split second to see the ball
roll under her foot and into the back of the net.
The game
continued to be open with each team playing for all three points until the final
whistle. Troughton and Harris again making last ditch tackles to protect the
goal, with Pennington and Gallagher, who replaced the fantastic Tomlinson in the
left back position, sweeping across to support. Broughton picked vital balls out
of the air from dangerous crosses to ensure that Chichester got a share of the
points.

CHICHESTER EARN SIX POINTS FROM DOUBLE HEADER
After three
weeks of postponed fixtures, a double header saw Chichester take all six points
from this windy and tiring encounter. The first game saw Chichester full of
energy and attacking from the kick off. The team worked incredibly hard
supporting play and offering outlets for endless options. This allowed Chi to
dominate the opposition and came close to breaking the deadlock very early. Just
as Lordswood were beginning to piece something together Chichester found the
back of the net. Sarah Wolfenden held the ball up o the top of the opposition’s
area only to find herself unfairly challenged and awarded a free kick. Emma
Brand stepped up and flighted a ball over the keeper to put Chi in front.
Chichester
scored two more in quick succession to effectively seal the game. The first from
another Brand free kick that created panic in the penalty area, with Sinead
Gallagher taking the initiative, reacting quickest to fire a shot in. With the
game opening up Laura Streeter was released down the wing to cross the ball
through the six yard box for Marie Field to latch onto.
The second
half was a battle for Chichester as the wind picked up and aided Lordswood into
something of a comeback. After scoring their first, a dubious penalty was
awarded. This struck the crossbar and cleared by Kirsty Troughton. A second goal
was scored with route one football, which Chi struggled to deal with.
The closing
moments of the game were a little uncomfortable for Chichester; they defended
well and managed to gain the first three points of the afternoon.
The second
game was full of very tired legs in both teams. With the wind behind Chichester
the pressure was on to take advantage that had been so important in the first
half. Several players looked out of sorts and struggled to overcome the mindset
that they were already winning. As the half panned out Chichester slowly
reinforced their dominance on the game. Playing some excellent passing football.
Natalie Hathaway dropped into a deeper position in midfield in an attempt to
create space up front. Chichester carved an opening through Laura Brander
crossing to be met for the second time on the day by Field to put the home side
ahead.
Chichester
could not capitalise on all the possession and faced the wind assisted Lordswood
with only a goal to the good. Lordswood rarely threatened, with the Chi keeper
Charlotte Broughton anticipating any attack, coming early to collect or clear
the ball.
A fine
performance by all saw Chichester win the six points.

CHICHESTER GOAL DROUGHT CONTINUES AGAINST HASSOCKS
Chichester dominated for the entire game and to say that
they were having somewhat of a goal drought would be an understatement.
Chichester have
only gained two points from a possible nine and their position in the league is
under increasing pressure.
Chichester maintained pressure with no real threat on
goal. A quality strike from Emma Teague was the only real effort, seeing the
ball bounce off and then over the bar.
Chichester took
time to settle on an uneven pitch, but once they mastered the bounce of the ball
on the uneven surface they settled into a passing game.
The second half
saw Chichester raise their game to a higher level and totally
dominated, playing at least 90% of the game in the attacking half. Chi worked
hard to support attack and switched the ball from flank to flank, the defence
were involved by spraying the ball across the back to provide further options
from deep. With attacks coming from all over the park, and probing through the
centre Hassocks struggled to even get hold of the ball let alone create any sort
of scoring opportunities.
Shots came close
from Laura Streeter, Marie Field, Sarah Wolfenden, Laura Brander and Emma Teague
to no avail. The closest chances were created by Kirtsy Troughton and Natalie
Hathaway that saw there certain goals claw out of the net by the Hassocks
outstanding keeper.

Chichester saw chances come and go for Marie Field,

the head of Field only to see a late offside flag rule it out.
Chichester looked thoroughly comfortable with the

The second half
saw Chi battle it out for the ball this time facing the strong wind. A little
panic set in and
Chichester

placing them under undue pressure.
Tempers were
rising with the air pressure and soon tackles were flying in and opinions were

at the expense of

CHICHESTER HELD IN TOP OF
TABLE CLASH
It was fast
and furious and Chichester dominated throughout yet failed to take all three
points in this vital top of the table clash. Chichester started well and rarely
had to defend their own goal, carving attack after attack. The sticky surface
created a few problems with players over compensating for the poor conditions
and often over hitting a pass.
There were
several chances that went awry. Chichester persevered and finally reaped the
reward of their efforts. Natalie Hathaway delivered an inch perfect cross from
the right to be met by Kirsty Troughton to put Chichester ahead. Hathaway
delivered another perfect pass moments later, this time from the left side;
Field missed this effort by mere inches.
The second
half saw Field have two more chances miss by the smallest margin to see
Chichester safe. Top quality defending from the central midfield players and
defensive line held off the Wandgas attacks for the second half.
The bitter
pill to swallow was the way in which Chichester conceded the equaliser and
therefore loses two essential points in the title race. The official had been
inconsistent and failed to take action on some dangerously nasty tackles. It
seemed as if he was looking for excuses to reward the opposition with free kicks
and therefore opportunities to get back into the game. The cream of appalling
decisions was when he rewarded a free kick on the edge of the box as a result of
minimum contact from a Chi player. The worst case scenario happened when the
ball struck the bar and feel perfectly for one of their strikers to draw level.
Chichester
stepped up a gear for the last fifteen minutes, but with the state of the pitch
it became increasingly difficult to play any quality football. The game ended
with the teams on level points with the Chichester team feeling a huge sense of

CHICHESTER DEFEAT WASPS IN
FREEZING CONDITIONS
A solid start
to the New Year after the Christmas rest period. The three points gained made
the freezing wet weather just about bearable. Chichester were slow to get going
and felt the early pressure from Crawley who were first to pounce on the loose
ball.
Chichester
slowly settled becoming accustomed to the unpredictable bounce and zip of the
sodden ground. Natalie Hathaway came close with a left footed strike Emma Brand
hit the crossbar with a well struck free kick.
Emma Brand
forced the error from Crawley shortly afterwards, a cleanly struck free kick,
floated into the danger area a Crawley player had o option but to go for the
ball, out jumping everyone she headed into her own net to give Chichester the
lead.
Chi continued
the attack working the ball out wide with fluid moves. The quality of football
was exceptional on the playing surface the only thing lacking was the goals.
A half-time
warm up in he changing room, saw both teams coming out for the second half to a
dramatic temperature drops and failing light. Both teams again took a little
time to settle, due to the adverse weather conditions. Chichester stepped up a
gear and drove at the Crawley defence with attack after attack. Emma Brand came
close again with another free kick just clipping the top of the crossbar, Marie
Field latched onto through balls from Richardson and Wolfenden to no avail,
Hathaway cam close from an angled through ball, Harris just missed putting home
a header from a perfectly weighted cross from Streeter.
Chichester
showed no frustration at the lack of goals. The defensive unit kept Crawley at
bay when threatened the goal, the Chichester goal keeper, Charlotte Broughton
was quick to react anything that broke through the defence to clear her lines.
Chi got their reward for their persistence when Crawley committed an offence in

LEAGUE CUP
Chichester faced a
Kent side from a
lower league and it showed from the outset. Scrappy and unstructured on a very
small pitch did not lend itself to
Chichester’s
style of play. Chi struggled for the first twenty minutes to find any composure
on the ball with very little quality. It was a disaster for Chichester with
Gravesham showing all the promise to make the breakthrough. The first half was
best forgotten with little promise. Marie Field provided Chi with a rare smile
with a smart goal from a Laura Brander through ball.
The second half
was all Chichester, with the opponents rarely threatening the
goal. For all the penetration through the defence Chi did not convert their
chances. Tending to over play the ball with few real efforts on goal.
The space was
limited; playing on a small pitch Chichester struggled for width. Annie
Richardson scored a class goal out of nothing, squeezing the ball in from the
tightest of angles. Emma Teague threatened to score on many occasions latching
on to through balls from the midfield, finally she reaped her reward with a shot
deflecting from a defender to seal the victory.
Chichester did show signs of the higher status however the
underdogs gave them a run for their money.
Chichester dug
deep and it is a sign of a good team to win when they play badly. Chi must
regain form to progress further in this competition.
A final mention

her baby, Bobby.

BRANDER SCORES FIVE AS
CHICHESTER LADIES THRASH UPPER BEEDING
Chichester discovered their shooting prowess with great
effect, scoring three times in both halves. A cold day did not dampen
Chichester’s
spirit and they started the game throwing numbers forward in the attack.
Chichester started strong and scored within the first five minutes. A simple
passing move, the ball went out wide with Streeter providing a deep cross for
Laura Brander to half volley for the first.
Chichester lost formation for a five minute spell of
madness a struggle to compose themselves. The only way to regain structure was
to score a goal and
Chichester definitely scored a goal. Arguably the best
goal of the season for
Chichester,
if not the league. Annie Richardson, Natalie Hathaway and Laura Streeter played
one touch football to perfection. Richardson and Hathaway played a slick passing
move to switch the ball out to the right flank for Streeter to deliver an inch
perfect cross to be met with the head of Laura Brander on the edge of the 18
yard box to see it fly into the top left hand corner.
The third was from
Streeter to Hathaway to see a ball slotted through for a left footed strike from
Brander to complete her hat-trick. The Chichester goal was not threatened in the
first half, allowing Chichester to settle into playing relaxed attractive
football to continue the attack.
The second half
saw more of a threat from
Upper Beeding
increase as they pushed players forward in an attempt to recover the game.
Chichester saw opportunities squandered and worked a little harder to keep Upper
Beeding at bay.
The defence and
holding midfield player swept away each and every attack to switch the balance
of play back into
Chichester’s
favour to begin a new attack.
Chichester switched the passage of play from flank to
flank, holding the ball to create new opportunities for attack. Chi totally
outclassed their opposition in every aspect and area of the football field.
Midway through the
second half
Chichester
corrected their short goal drought, with another goal for Brander, striking left
footed into the top corner from a
Richardson
through ball. Streeter joined in the goal festival scoring form a wide position.
Brander rounded off the goals, when she scored her fifth of the game and
Chichester’s sixth. Sarah Arbury got to the back line, dragging the ball back to
the top of the six yard box for Brander to meet on the half volley to seal the
victory for Chichester.
Chichester put on
a textbook performance to win the three points and grow in confidence. This
result sees Chichester to third place in the league with a game in hand on the
leaders.

Ladies 1 aet (Sussex Cup R2) |

Chichester had to overcome several stumbling blocks before arriving to the cup
tie at Whitehawk. Chichester’s opponents were composed and confident before the
kick off. Chichester had faced Whitehawk before their promotion to a higher
league, they knew what to expect a fast, fierce and competitive game and they
were not to be disappointed.
The game
was dominated by Whitehawk for the opening ten minutes, with shots flying
towards the Chi goal.
Chichester composed themselves and regaining confidence started to
play some passing football. They competed on an equal playing field and without
question the game was always promising something special.
Natalie
Hathaway looked the most likely to breakthrough for Chi latching on to through
balls from Sarah Wolfenden and Annie Richardson. Marie Field worked tirelessly
across their back line but with no luck.
Whitehawk
continued to attack throughout the half and Chichester got to half time with an
incredibly respectable 0 – 0.
The
second half started where the first half left off. Charlotte Broughton in the
Chichester goal made a selection of fine saves to keep them at bay throughout
the game, throwing herself into dangerous positions to prevent the ball from
crossing the line at all costs. Goal line clearances and futile shots added to
their frustration and allowed Chichester to breakdown and disrupt Whitehawk's
pattern of play. With increased pressure from the flanks, Laura Brander and Emma
Teague began to question the quality of the oppositions defence.
The
deadlock was broken by an excellent passage of play from Chi, resulting with
Brander striking the ball into the keeper, retrieving the rebound and squaring
the ball for Hathaway to place her shot from the edge of the 18 yard box
perfectly into the corner of the goal. This early goal settled Chi into a
compact unit, with each player working hard to support their team mates.
Chichester held strong with fantastic defending throughout the team. The back
four making timely challenges to ensure the score line remained the same. The
Whitehawk attack broke through wave after wave. Harris, Brand, Pennington and
Troughton rallied the troops and led by example to continually hold tight.
The
minutes dwindled by as Whitehawk changed the formation time after time to get
something from the game.
Chichester were tiring but an observer would not have noticed. Goal line
clearances from Brander and Pennington forced the opponents to go for an all out
attack formation.
A
controversial penalty decision went against Chi with 8 minutes to go. With much
upset and delay the Whitehawk striker slotted the equaliser. The players did not
even celebrate, suggesting the decision was not entirely correct.
The tie
was sealed in extra time with an Angela Banks strike early in the first half.
Chichester went on the attack with much despair, Brand and Wolfenden went
unrewarded with their long range efforts. A fine performance which saw
Chichester rekindle their pride and spirit playing the level of
football which they have sadly lacked this season.
Thanks go
to Maria Tomlinson who sacrificed her role to assist with running the line.

Chichester outclassed their opponents for much of the
game, however the score line failed to reflect this. They often struggled for

A lack lustre
performance saw Chi still manage to dominate the game and claim all three points
to take them to second in the premier league on goal difference alone. An early
break through saw Chi stamp authority o the game. A swift move saw Sarah
Wolfenden switch the ball from left to right wing, an excellent delivery from
Streeter to see a punishing blow to
Crawley
when Laura Brander converted.
Two minutes in and
Chi sat back, complacent of certain victory and began to lose the quality of
football. Shortly after, Natalie Hathaway created space with some great running
to see Marie Field slot home to double the lead. Glimmers of football shone
through but Chi never really got into the flow of the fantastic football we have
seen in recent weeks.
Half time saw
necessary changes, Streeter and Pennington had to retire due to injury. Chi
again controlled but never really drove to punish Wasps. A few close scrapes
were dealt with and
Chichester kept a clean sheet. Richardson, Wolfenden and
Hathaway put a few slick passing moves together in the centre of midfield, but
too often lacked the final ball.
A cross from
Brander saw Kirsty Troughton dive to meet the ball with a superb header to
finally put the game beyond doubt. A glance at what Chichester is capable of.

Ladies 4 Littlehampton 0 (League) |
|
After two
successful cup ties Chichester had to regroup and focus on the league with a
visit from a young Littlehampton side. The game started at a ferocious pace with
both sides feeling the pressure from the crowd, the biggest to date.
Littlehampton looked threatening in the opening stages as Chichester struggled
to gain control as the ball flew back and forth in the air.
Chichester
gradually imposed some quality football and managed to get the ball on the
ground passing it around.
Chichester broke the deadlock with a dramatic goal. Lucy Abbott delivered a fine
cross to be met with the head of Louise Harris, the ball sailed into the top
corner. In the process a mistimed challenge clashed with the head of Harris
which saw her rushed off to hospital with suspected concussion and a huge lump
for her troubles.
The
balance of the game dramatically changed, the Harris goal settled Chichester and
the reshuffle of positions only made Chi stronger and more determined to gain
the victory from this game.
Chichester struck for a second time soon after with a through ball from Annie
Richardson to Laura Brander beat the defenders for pace and calmly slotted home
on the floor for a two goal lead. Chi put the game beyond doubt before the half
was over with excellent build up play and off the ball running throughout the
team. Natalie Hathaway started the move switching the ball out wide, then
beating the off side trap found herself in acres of space when the ball was
passed from Brander. With masses of time to get the ball under control there was
only ever going to be one outcome as Natalie curled the ball round the oncoming
keeper.
With
three goals to their tally Chichester found it hard to step up another level to
really turn in the screw. Instead they played a controlled and disciplined
possession game giving their young opponents a lesson in football.
Littlehampton had not given up hope and their energy and enthusiasm have to be
acknowledged, but with far too many unforced errors,
Chichester dealt with the competition with ease.
Emma
Brand sealed the victory with another free kick in a similar position to last
week, curling the ball over the keeper. Marie Field and Sarah Wolfenden came
close to adding to the tally late on giving Chichester options of goals from all
over the park.

The cup
tie was a game that Chichester wanted to win to stamp their authority over their
opposition who they are due to play in the league later in the season.
Chichester asserted their superiority from the kick off coming close then
winning a series of corners. Chichester maintained possession and found it easy
to dispossess Upper Beeding. The breakthrough came from an early free kick. Just in
range for Laura Streeter who struck the ball into the top corner with a twenty
yard drive. The perfect start to settle
Chichester into a steady
rhythm.
Chichester passed the ball with fluency across the defence using the goal keeper
to great affect to clear any danger from the forwards. Chichester switched the
ball between flanks and created opportunities with decisive balls through the
middle. Upper Beeding struggled to compete and rarely threatened the
Chichester goal.
A second
came just before half time with Natalie Hathaway spraying the ball wide to
Streeter who drove a low cross to be met by the oncoming Marie Field who wrong
footed the keeper to slot in the bottom corner
Half time

the ball on the floor. Even the Gods were impressed with the thunderous display.
Emma Brand sealed the victory with another goal from a set piece. This time from

Chichester continued to attack and the Upper Beeding defence had to work hard

Another fine day
saw a bright opening for
Chichester, their early pressure accounted for three close
strikes and ample pressure on the opponent’s goal. Lindfield streamed forward
with a fast counter- attack and came close to rocking
Chichester nerve.
One counter attack turned into continual pressure from the travelling team. Chi
tried to settle but failed to find their form. Lindfield got their reward with
their striker capitalising on a misunderstanding between a Chi defender and the
keeper.
Outraged by the
loss of a goal
Chichester almost equalise from a swift move from the
restart. Natalie Hathaway drove a lofted ball straight into the path of Laura
Streeter attacking the goal from a wide position, striking the ball into the
cross bar with venom. This drove
Chichester
forward who equalised shortly after. The pressure was unrewarded before half
time with Chichester competing at the same level as their opponents from the
league below.
Chi were dished a
few home truths during half time, they had to raise their game and play the
football we had come to expect from the team this season.
In the second half
there was only one team the
Chichester
keeper touched the ball only three times, reflecting the proportion of
possession. Chichester struck again from Streeter, the lead was swiftly added on
with a Marie Field strike. Flowing movement and accurate passing of the ball
relieved pressure and Chi looked all together more relaxed on the ball and rose
to the occasion.
Field added a
second to her tally, fourth to
Chichester,
with a cheeky lob of the oncoming keeper. Laura Brander who provided the final
ball for most of the goals provided the delivery for Laura Streeter to complete
her hat-trick and round up the scoring for
Chichester.
A difficult first
half where Chi struggled to find any sort of form eventually resulted in a
comprehensive win for the home side to progress through to the next round of the

A long journey to Dover was met with sunshine and a
dazzling display of top class football. Chichester struck early,
but the post saved Dover from initial embarrassment from Laura
Streeter strike. Chichester imposed their superior football from
the kick off spending the majority of the first half in the
Dover half.
Chichester applied the pressure with a series of
excellent corners, but continued to go without reward. Two
saved from the line and the woodwork saving Dover, it all
sounded too familiar, all the football but nothing to show for
it. Chichester were unperturbed and continued to turn the
screw, they finally got the breakthrough just before the break.
Natalie Hathaway played the ball out wide to Streeter, beating
two players, calmly slotting the ball across the goal to be met
by Marie Field to put the away side one up.
Chichester started the second half where they left
off, Dover sat back and tried to absorb the pressure. Laura
Brander settled the Chichester side with a superb snatched half
volley from a rebound off the keeper from a Hathaway shot. The
Chichester side revelled as the ball sailed into the top corner.
Dover threw everything forward and the game was yet to be
decided. The long ball game unnerved the travelling team and
prevented them from playing football, the home side managed to
get one back from a hit and hope, met by the Dover striker to
try her luck from outside the area with a perfectly timed strike
to make the final twenty minutes a little interesting.
Chichester had a spell of panic which saw Dover
expose Chi with the high ball over the top of the midfield and
defence. This was unsuccessful and Chichester managed to regain
composure to continue with possession to continue their attack.
Marie Field sealed the game for Chi with her
persistent running at the Dover defence saw her finally rewarded
in the late stages to put the game beyond doubt for a Chichester
victory.

A
draw in this Chichester dominated game was simply not good enough.
The home side set out with the right intentions, attacking the
oppositions with speed and wicked crosses from each flank. The
game turned into an aerial contest with Chichester panicking under
pressure. The ball looped and swirled in the wind and Hassocks
caused Chichester to lose a little shape. The opponents looked
dangerous at set pieces, a free kick struck against the wall and a
series of corners , resulted in Hassocks scoring a 'lucky' goal
with the ball swerving in directly from the corner kick.
Chichester felt hard done by and regrouped to penetrate the
opponents defence with a hope of scoring before the break. Chi had
several chances with the attackers agonisingly close to the
target.
The second half saw the Chichester cavalry attack the oppositions
half with a continual wave of threat towards the Hassocks goal.
Finally
Chichester were rewarded. Emma Teague drove at the
defence, dribbling round four players before she struck for goal.
With the keeper beaten Marie Field made sure that
Chichester equalised with her shot from short range.
The home supporters cheered for more, believing that the
'floodgates had been opened'. How wrong they were.
Chichester to their avail saw each attack stifled by the
keeper. Most impressive was a last ditch clearance off the line by
a Hassocks defender from the strike of Louise Harris.
The
standard of passing football from
Chichester was significantly higher than their opponents.
With the fluidity of movement second to none.
Chichester must find their fire power to transfer the superior and
dominance of possession into goals and ultimately results.

dropped. They travel to Dover with the hope of continual high
class football, with the all important addition of goals.

play. Goals were hard to come by with several opportunities
squandered. Horley replied swiftly and quickly turned the tables

Chichester now reeling in defence. The game became more
even and the first half turned into end to end play with either
side looking likely to score.
Chichester saw their best chances coming as a result of through
balls from the midfield, unfortunately for Chi these were cut out
by the Horley defence. Horley had the break through they needed
close to half time,
Chichester
failed to clear and the opponents capitalised.
The second half was full of promise for the depleted
Chichester
team, with three first team players absent due to illness, but
still more than capable of drawing level. A fatal blow was issued
shortly after the kick off by Horley, where a mix up saw the
striker pounce on a free ball to see it nestle in the back of the

Chichester failed to respond, while the whole team worked hard to
